Dr. Shattuck will describe the experiences of faith communities where people have adopted earth care as part of their religious practice.  These congregations undertake diverse actions such as conserving resources installing solar panels, planting gardens, and advocating for climate justice.  Their stories provide lessons about how to create and sustain earth care programs that may help others join the movement to care for our common home.

Dr. Shattuck is an Associate Professor at Western Michigan University.  She has a joint position in the Institute of the Environment and Sustainability and the Development of Comparative Religion.  Her research focuses on the intersection of religion and environmental sustainability.  Her recently published book, Faith, Hope and Sustainability: the Greening of US Faith Communities examines motivations and processes that facelifted development of earth care initiatives in fifteen congregations.
