Leadership in the Catholic Church is often identified with sacramental ministry, so it is widely perceived that women have no influence in the Church. Dr. Woo examines this perception and offers the myths and reality of women’s leadership in Catholic Ministries. She names critical capacities needed for leadership and the challenges women often face. Drawing on her faith, scholarship, and experiences, she holds a mirror to the current situation and presents a balanced overview with humor and insights.
Dr. Woo came from Hong Kong to Purdue University in 1972. Soon, she was drafted onto the Purdue faculty, became a full professor, and then moved into administration. In 1997 she became dean of the Mendoza College at the University of Notre Dame where she cultivated quality teaching in all business disciplines. Dr. Woo served as CEO of Catholic Relief Services (2012-16), overseeing humanitarian relief and sustainable development in one hundred countries with a hundred million people annually. She is recognized for her writing, especially for a better world and women’s leadership.
